Love In A Cold Climate*

The rain beats against the windows.  In a minute will check whether or not it’s raining inside my bedroom but am warm and comfortable under my furry blanket.

We’ve just been watching The Story Of Cats:

After this photo, the fluffy monster hid behind the sofa.  Don’t think he liked all the roaring and growling.

Skin continues to peel off under arm.  It’s red and sore.  Radiotherapist from hospital calls earlier and tells me to use aloe vera on any broken skin.  So am doing that.  Ouch though.

On the plus side: achieve a small bike ride with Dad after lunch: in between the morning’s snow and the afternoon’s rain.

Here is breakfast – avocado, iceberg lettuce and cottage cheese:

And lunch:

Spinach, artichoke, sweetcorn, avocado and spring onion salad.

The Omelette with broccoli, mushroom and grated cheddar.

Can hear the murmur of the radio in the kitchen.  Mum is making supper.  On our bike ride we track down some artichokes in the greengrocer, so maybe we will get them for supper.

A cocktail will take my mind off the itching.  One minute…

Here we go.  It’s a White Lady: gin, Cointreau and lemon juice.  Added some slimline tonic just for fun:

Another day, another article in which someone says they’ve ‘cured’ their terminal cancer by cutting out alcohol, carbohydrates and coffee.  Or something.  And they’re publishing a book about it, of course.

If can be bothered, may publish own memoir: haven’t cured my terminal cancer by gin, spin and dinosaurs, but at least am not a crashing bore.  The gin, spin and dinosaur plan would seem to have a wider appeal to people than the abstaining-from-anything-fun diet anyway.

In wonderful news: an independent bookshop is opening in the parental village.  Everyone is agog with excitement.  Am going to brush up CV and apply for job there in manner of a fat, modern Nancy Mitford.  Maybe will take the fluffy monster with.  He’d be excellent at working in a bookshop.  Can’t wait.  We haven’t had a bookshop since W.H. Smith abandoned us years ago.

Attached photo is today’s spin outfit

Happy Tuesday everyone!
*1949.  By Nancy Mitford.  Novel.

Exciting news about the bookshop. You don’t hear of many independents opening now.

Wow, your eating habits are impressive and healthy in equal measure. Yeah, write your book-I’ll buy yours if you buy mine. ;). Good luck with the book shop. xxx
