Sparkling Cyanide*

It’s been Two Months since I last had an alcoholic drink.  Well done me.  This is how I’ve done it:

1.  Librium in hospital to deal with any physical addiction.

2.  Clonazepam once I’d finished the Librium to deal with any anxiety from alcohol withdrawal.  Am still taking the clonazepam.

3.  Going to bed after supper: usually at 8/8.30pm, so there’s no long alcohol-free evening to fill.

4.  Having drinks that I like: Diet Coke, Lemon squash with fizzy water, coffee, hot chocolate, coffee mixed with hot chocolate.

5.  Spin or weights every morning.

6.  One or two walks per day.

7.  Body Scan meditatation and, if possible, sleep after lunch.

8.  Body Scan meditation again at bedtime.

9.  Have avoided bars and parties where know that people will be drinking.

10.  Although restaurants and pubs have been OK.  Can deal with people drinking around me whilst eating: it’s just am avoiding events focused on drinking.

11.  The parentals haven’t been drinking in front of me.

12.  Have been staying at the parentals most of the time so am not on own.

13.  Plenty of cuddles with the fluffy monster.

14.  Midsomer Murders.

Anyway: it’s still early days but has been easier than I thought it would be.  My physical addiction must’ve been dealt with by the Librium in hospital.  Am still pleased with myself for sticking with it.  Have lost a bit of weight: my appetite has shrunk and I’m no longer consuming all those empty alcohol calories.  Just waiting for the panther to go away now…

The attached photo is today’s Spin outfit.

Happy Monday everyone!

Sleepy Hollow*

Pulling my coat and scarf on over my sleepwear, I step outside.  The sun has set and it’s cold in the gloom and fog.  Really don’t feel like walking, I think, as I begin my double-trudge-around-the-block.  Passing cars have their headlights on.  The panther stalks beside me – blending into the darkness, his amber eyes glowing.

As I place one foot in front of the other and repeat again and again, I start to feel better.  The bracing air hits my lungs and quietens the wren of anxiety.  Her wings stop beating in my stomach.  She falls asleep.

It’s Sleepy Hollow weather out here: mist and fog.  Passing some horse poo, I keep my eyes peeled for a headless horseman and listen for the clattering of hooves.

Achievements of the day:

1.  Push self quite hard at Spin.  Show you:

Spin outfit photo attached, with a friend and The Boss.  We do have fun at Spin, as you can see.  Love it so much.

2.  Find the fluffy monster standing in the middle of the road.  Pick him up, carry him inside and give him some more Breakfast.

3.  Wash self and Spin clothes and hang them over the edge of the bath to dry.

4.  Body Scan meditation and sleep.

5.  Double walk around the block: 30 minutes.

Have a Midsomer Murders recorded to watch.  Must just have a look for that fluffy monster though: it’s dark now and can hear fireworks and he’s outside.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Arsenic And Old Books*

Happy National Cat Day everyone! #caturday.  Here is a photo of the fluffy monster, taken just before he started eating his supper, which he’s doing now – chomping through it with gusto.

Am just back from my double-walk-round-the-block and am collapsed on the carpet in the fluffy monster’s room.  The panther stretches out next to me, resting his head on the back of my thighs.  It is heavy and am exhausted.  Need to struggle to my feet and trudge to the sofa.  One minute…

Right, that’s better.  Am on the sofa.  The panther lies next to me and Mum is on his other side, doing The Times crossword.  Dad sits in his chair.

Achievements of the day:

1.  Push self quite hard at Halloween Spin.  Photo attached.  The pumpkin is my instructor and am a leopard.  Show you my graph:

2.  Small cycle ride with Dad: 20 minutes.

3.  Wash self and Spin clothes and hang them on the edge of the bath to dry.

Blood Work*

“So, how are you doing?” My doctor says, sitting back in her chair, swivelling it to face me.  Her long chestnut hair swings as she turns.  She can’t be much older than me.  In a different world, she could be the patient and I could be the successful young doctor, I think.

“Well, I’m not doing that well,” I say.  “That’s what I wanted to talk to you about.  My mood is still low after six months and I’m having constant flashbacks to Seb breaking up with me, and I’m dreading going back to work and…well, I’ve had about eight operations in the last couple of years and I feel that it’s hit me all at once and…”

“You have had a bad time of it,” she says, her voice soft with sympathy.

“So I was wondering if I could have some blood tests to see if I’ve got a deficiency of something,” I say.  “Although I can’t have them in either arm because I’ve had all my nodes out and…”

“So where have you had them?” She says, looking puzzled.

“I haven’t had any blood tests since I had the nodes out on my left side,” I say.  “Had the flu injection in my leg so…”

“Let’s have a look at your foot,” she says.

Taking off my boot and sock, I show her my foot.

“Right,” she says.  “Make an appointment with me and I’ll try to get some blood out of your foot. We’ll test for everything: Vitamin D, thyroid function, liver function, blood count.”

“Thank you very much,” I say, walking out to reception to make an appointment, the panther stalking behind me.

So have made an appointment for next Friday to get the bloods done.

Dead Air*

It’s 4.09pm.  Am sitting up in bed after my sleep.  It’s warm in my bed because the furry blanket is on top of my duvet.  The panther stretches out next to me, resting his head on my shoulder, tickling my cheek with his whiskers.  His breath smells of rotting meat.

It’s been a sunny day and the sun’s still shining and the sky is blue.

Dark Murder*

It’s 5.41pm.  Am just back from the double-walk-around-the-block.  Am sitting on the sofa.  The panther lies next to me, resting his heavy head in my lap.  Stroking the soft back of his neck with one hand, I lift up my glass of Diet Coke with the other and sip it.  Mum is in the kitchen, cooking.  Can hear a sizzling sound.  Dad is in his office.  The fluffy monster is on my brother’s bed.

The Cat Who Lived High*

The sun has set by the time that I make it outside for the double-walk-around-the-block.  It’s 5.01pm.  Need to start setting off earlier for my second walk of the day, I think, rounding the first corner.  Crunching through fallen leaves, climbing uphill, I pass a robin bobbing along the ground.  He cocks his head and regards me with black beady eyes.

The panther stalks along next to me, padding on soft paws.  We pass dog walkers, a police car and a couple of other pedestrians.  The walk feels tough today: my legs ache from Spin and have a headache.  Am still glad to have made it out in the fresh air though.

Achievements of the day:

1.  Push self quite hard at Spin.  Show you:

Spin outfit is in the attached photo.

2.  At Mum and MadFatRunner’s insistence, make an appointment to see my doctor.  “It’s possible that there’s something else physical going on,” MadFatRunner says.  “Maybe you need some blood tests.”  It can’t hurt, I think.  Maybe I’ve got some deficiency that I need some treatment for and that’s why I’m not recovering properly from the operation and feel so awful.  We shall see.

3.  Walk home from the doctor: 20 minutes.

4.  Wash self and Spin clothes.

5.  Host some visitors at lunchtime.  Is nice to see them.

6.  Body Scan meditation and sleep.

7.  Double walk round the block: 30 minutes.

8.  Give a purring fluffy monster his supper.  Here’s a photo that Timehop threw up three years ago today:

Now am sitting with the panther on the sofa.  The parentals are both going out this evening.  Let’s hope that there’s a Midsomer Murders recorded that can watch.

Happy Monday everyone!

The Cat Who Brought Down The House*

It’s 5.31pm.  There’s been a jewellery party going on at the parental home so they’re just packing up now.  Have been sleeping and having a little cry about Seb.  Am not going out for my second walk because it’s almost dark out there and have a headache.

Achievements of the day:

1.  Push self hard at Spin.  Look:

Average effort: 88%.  Well done me.  Spin outfit is in the attached photo.

2.  Walk to and from the village: 40 minutes.

3.  Meet a couple of friends for lunch.

4.  Body Scan meditation and sleep.

The fluffy monster has come in and is sleeping under my chair.  Timehop has thrown up a three-years-ago photo of him when he was smaller than a shoe.  Look:

Am sitting on the sofa with the panther, drinking a cup of coffee.  The panther is grooming himself, head turned so he can rasp his flank with his rough tongue.

Have recorded an episode of Midsomer Murders to watch later.

Happy Sunday everyone!
